The Meigs boys and girls team drew familiar opponents in the first round of the playoffs, here’s how things look for both:

Boys

Opponent: #2 seed Fairfield Union (17-2)

Where: Logan High School

When: Feb. 25th @ 3 p.m.

Summary: The boys in Pomeroy can redeem a 59-47 loss to Fairfield Union that ultimately ended their season one year ago. The Marauders are at their best when suffocating defense allows for fast breaks and easy buckets. Meigs can become reliant on the three ball from time to time which, when ineffective, can allow teams back into games or see the Marauders taken right out of them. If Luke Musser and Christian Mattox can consistently knock down shots while also getting their teammates involved, the Marauders’ chances of staying close and potentially pulling off the upset are high.

Girls

Opponent: #5 seed Jackson (9-11)

Where: Logan Middle School

When: Feb. 15th @ 8 p.m.

Summary: The Lady Marauders hold the higher seed (4) over the Ironladies despite losing to them 48-43 earlier this year. Meigs won 6 of its next 9 games after the loss to Jackson to put themselves in a confident frame of mind heading into this playoff match-up. Over that stretch, Kassidy Betzing and Devin Humphreys emerged as a troublesome one-two punch on the offensive end. If Meigs wants to avenge themselves, a third offensive threat must emerge. Madison Hendricks, Marissa Noble and Madison Fields have all proved in the past that they are more than capable of putting points on the board; that being said, the Lady Marauders will need them more than ever if they want to keep their season alive.
