Authorities pulled a backpack full of drugs off of Ohio University’s Athens campus on Friday, the weekend of the final round of local fests this semester.

zimmerAccording to a press release from the Athens County Major Crimes Unit (MCU), the seizure started after the Ohio University Police Department (OUPD), initiated a traffic stop on Bobcat Lane, April 21, 2017.  Officers say during the traffic stop officers “had reason to suspect that there were illegal drugs in the vehicle.” The ensuing search found a backpack full of what authorities say is, 100 doses of lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD) and approximately one ounce of psilocybin mushrooms.

The passenger of the car, Randall C. Zimmer, age 20 of Liberty Township, Ohio, was arrested for felony drug possession.  Zimmer is facing a felony of the third-degree charge of possession of LSD and a fifth-degree charge of possession of psilocybin, according to the release.

#Fest took place in Athens this past weekend, the last week of classes at OU.

The Athens County Major Crimes Unit comprises the county’s Sheriff and Prosecuting Attorney’s offices, and the Athens, Ohio University, and Nelsonville Police Departments.
