Man In Critical Condition After Shooting In The Plains

UPDATE 5:15 p.m. – The victim in a shooting on Pine Street has been identified as Robert L. Anderson, Jr., of The Plains.

As of Friday afternoon, Anderson was still at Grant Medical Center in critical condition. Officials were not available to comment on his updated condition.

According to Athens County Sheriff Rodney Smith, this was an isolated incident.

“We believe it was a dispute. There’s no need for the public to have any concerns,” he said.

Another man is in custody, charged in connection with the apparent shooting.

Athens County Sheriff’s Office deputies were called to Pine Street in The Plains on Thursday, on a report of an active shooting, according to a release by the sheriff’s office.

When the male, whose name was not released by the sheriff’s office, was taken to OhioHealth O’Bleness Hospital before being transferred to Grant Hospital in Columbus. The victim was listed in critical as of Friday morning, according to the sheriff’s office.

James J. Holland, 46, of 14 Pine Street was arrested and charged with one count of felonious assault. He is being held at the Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail on $50,000 bond, according to court and jail records.
