It was a successful week for Meigs High School Basketball as both the boys’ (2-9) and girls’ (7-4) teams took home wins in their individual contests.

On January 4th, in their first matchup of 2018, the Lady Marauders came out roaring to take a decisive victory by a score of 48-26 against the Jackson High School Ironwomen.

The Meigs defense, “dominated and limited shots”, said Coach Kasun.

Kassidy Betzing has been the offensive leader for this Lady Marauder team this year as she tallied yet another double-digit finish with 21 total points.

She’s had consistent help from Maddie Fields on the offensive side of the ball all year. But, as the season has gone on the Lady Marauders have been improving their strokes and “hitting shots from the outside.”

The Jackson Ironwomen lost their top player to injury and it showed as the Meigs defense was the main focal point for these last couple of games.

This win adds to the Lady Marauders winning streak as it moves up to three games and the girls seem to have found their groove. The question is, how hot can this Meigs team get? We’ll be able to tell for sure as the face-off against Nelsonville on Thursday, December 11th.

On January 5th, the Meigs basketball team added another W to their win column.

They rolled past the Alexander Spartans by a score of 58-47.

This is the first double-digit victory for a Marauder team who displayed some grit in their last game. This game was a little different as they put a lead on a board and kept it there.

The Marauders have now won two straight and don’t let the 2-9 record fool you, the Marauders have been a stop or two away from pulling out a victory and this surge of determination and confidence may have just been what Coach Frye had ordered.

The Marauders seem to be making a push for a comeback season and we will see how far they can get as their fight to overcome a tough first couple of weeks continues on Friday, December 12th.
