The Alexander Lady Spartans played the Warren Lady Warriors in this rescheduled game despite another school closing.

The Lady Spartans were defeated by the Lady Warriors in the final seconds of this nail biter with a final score of 46-49.

In the first quarter, the Lady Spartans could not get their shots to drop when they attacked the hoop, even though they reshot a lot of offensive rebounds.

They were able to turn things around in the second quarter, but the Lady Warriors were right there to answer. The two teams were playing smart offense which led to back and forth scoring.

Whatever Coach Jeff Grinstead said to his team in the locker room at half time sparked something in the players because they came back out looking like a much more polished team.

Rachel Richardson was our Hero of the Week last week and she certainly lived up to that title in this tough match up tonight.

She led her team in scoring with 14 points, six of which were big threes that regained the Spartan’s lead.

Kena Rice showed up ready to defend her home court today with three steals that shifted momentum in the second half, along with her 11 points. Kristin Taylor killed it crashing the boards with nine rebounds and a big block in the final minutes.

Unfortunately, this was not enough to stop the aggressive Lady Warriors. Emily Jackson dominated the court being the only Lady Warriors starter to score in the first half. She led her squad with 24 of their 49 points.

The final seconds of the game came down to a battle of free throws as both teams got into one and one foul trouble.

But it was the Lady Warriors that executed their foul shots under pressure and won them the game.
