Waterford Fends Off Eastern’s Upset Bid
< < Back to waterford-fends-off-easterns-upset-bidSenior Night is a time of the year where emotions are high and the postseason is near.
Emotion helped changed the game for both teams as the Eastern Lady Eagles (13-7, 12-4 TVC Hocking) fell to the Waterford Lady Wildcats (18-1, 16-0 TVC Hocking), 63-48.
At the start of the game, anyone in the gym could tell that Eastern came out with more energy than Waterford.
The Lady Eagles played well on both sides of the ball at the start, and that can be attributed to the game plan made by Coach Jacob Parker.
The game plan worked great for the Eastern Lady Eagles in the 1st half, forcing 10 turnovers on 7 steals, along with only 12 points from Waterford’s dominant players.
The only reason that the Lady Wildcats were in the game was the second chance points they were getting. This great defense led to only a 1 point lead for Waterford, 28-27.
The dynamic duo of Ali Kern and Megan Ball struggled in the 1st half, but Ali Kern was a big difference in the second half.
Kern took over for the Lady Wildcats whenever they needed somebody to turn to, she finished with a double-double with 21 points and 11 rebounds. Megan Ball, who finished with just 2 points, struggled all night but opened up the floor for her other teammates.
Eastern began to struggle from the field, due to the Waterford defense forcing turnovers and bad shots.
The Lady Eagles had hope when they started to force some more turnovers and get fast break points, 5 in total from Alyson Bailey, who finished with 12 points.
In the final quarter of play, Waterford just put it out of reach from the Lady Eagles. Eastern had a run led by Liz Collins, who had 14 points, but the Lady Wildcats were just too much.
Rachel Adams was a big reason why Waterford put away the game. Eastern was forced to foul and she made 6-7 from the free throw line, which helped her finish with 21 points.
Waterford finishes their perfect record in the TVC Hocking and will travel to Minford on 2/10. Eastern finishes their regular season and looks forward to the postseason tournament, where they will take on South Webster on 2/15.
