Pop culture trends may ebb and flow, but for the true devotees of all things film, literature, and comic book based, one’s particular love for Star Wars or Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter certainly doesn’t hang on any collective decision on whether or not a certain media is anything other than enjoyable.

Such a pure love and devotion to all things pop culture is celebrated every spring with Ratha Con, the region’s premiere celebration of all things geeky, nerdy, and dorky, at the Athens Community Center. This year the event is taking place on Saturday, May 12 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Ratha Con 2018 will feature everything from cosplay to kid’s crafts to tabletop games taking place all day.

WOUB’s Emily Votaw spoke with Kelly Lawrence, the executive director of Ratha Con, and Jay Pare, one of the Ratha Con committee members, about the upcoming event.

Check out the complete schedule of events at this link, and for information on the event’s pre and post event festivities, check out their Facebook event pages. The pre-party is a nerd prom at Casa Cantina on Friday, May 11, and the afterparty, Cosmic Costumed Bowling, will take place at Rollerbowl Lanes on Saturday, May 12.
