(Almost) every weekend local music geeks unite to provide the region with (usually) 11 hours of creatively curated tunes on WOUB 1340AM, an endeavor that is entitled Radio Free Athens! Typically the program runs from 9 a.m. EST to 8 p.m. EST every Saturday, and can also be heard through this link

Get a preview of some of the groovy tunes that will be flowing through the airwaves this Saturday from a couple of our volunteer DJs.

NOTE! This is not a complete list of the folks who will be contributing to the Saturday, May 26 show!

From DJ Grumpy Grandma, aka Emily Votaw, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. EST

If Emily Votaw is grateful for anything this week, it’s that Light In the Attic Records has announced that they are reissuing Haruomi Honoso’s 1978 Paraiso, 1982’s Philharmonic, 1989’s omni Sight Seeing on August 10, and 1973’s Honoso House, and 1978’s Cochin Moon on September 28! These reissues will mark the very first time that these albums have been pressed outside of Japan. So, Emily doesn’t have them yet, although she’s pretty in love with Honoso and knows the records from repeated listens on YouTube. She will be talking a lot about this, you can be sure.

She’s also been hitting Whole Love from Wilco pretty heavily recently — actually this entire spring has been a heavy Wilco period for Votaw. You can also expect some recently nabbed Nellie McKay, some George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic, and a heckuva lot more.

From Art Cromwell, 12 p.m. EST to 3 p.m. EST

Out of the Afternoon: with host Art Cromwell: Eclectic excursions into eras, artists, genres, and oral history.

On May 26, you can expect

-That Spanish Tinge-Afro-Cuban connections to Jazz history
-A birthday and anniversary (pre)-celebration (Miles Davis).
