CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) – An application period for a school clothing allowance is being extended in West Virginia.

The Department of Health and Human Resources says in a news release the deadline for the program administered by the Division of Family Assistance has been pushed back to Aug. 10. Applications originally were due by July 31.

The allowance is for eligible children enrolled in West Virginia schools. The statement says the deadline was pushed back because the program has expanded to include families with children enrolled in public pre-kindergarten or Head Start programs who are age 4 on July 1. The age cutoff date had been Sept. 1.

Each child whose family meets income guidelines will receive a $200 voucher for use toward the purchase of school clothing or materials to make clothes.
