COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) – An Associated Press review has uncovered two financial issues in the background of Democratic treasurer candidate Rob Richardson.

Hamilton County court records show Richardson’s then-wife accused the Cincinnati attorney of establishing a private bank account to shield a $102,000 work bonus from her shortly before their 2015 divorce.

Campaign spokesman William Montague said Mahlet Richardson’s allegation was unsubstantiated. He said she received a percentage of the bonus in the divorce.

Records also show Richardson was sued for breach of contract in a 2004 mortgage case. The homeowners alleged Richardson’s loan fell through because he misrepresented his job status.

Montague says the charge was unsubstantiated. He said Richardson decided against pursuing the home after the loan fell through and settled with the homeowners for “several thousand dollars.”
