CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) – Almost all natural gas customers in West Virginia will be seeing a reduction in part of their rates starting next month.

The state Public Service Commission said it ordered natural gas utilities to lower the purchased gas portion of their rates for more than 95 percent of the state’s natural gas customers. The interim rates go into effect Nov. 1, with final rates to be set early next year.

Gas utilities are permitted by law to recover their costs to purchase natural gas.

The change announced Tuesday will mean a 3.95 percent decrease for Mountaineer Gas Co. customers and a 5.66 percent decrease for Hope Gas/Dominion Energy customers. It also means a decrease of 6.33 percent for Peoples Gas customers and 5.84 percent for Lumberport-Shinnston Gas customers.
