CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) – A group formed to review student behavior in West Virginia public schools will hold its first meeting next month.

The state Department of Education says in a news release the group will meet Nov. 13 at the state Board of Education’s conference room at the Capitol in Charleston. The group will review student discipline data, policy and processes.

The group was formed at the request of state board President Dave Perry. It includes members of teachers and school service personnel unions, groups representing school administrators and school boards, classroom teachers and others.

The statement says the group will try to ensure adequate supports are in place for students and educators and consider possible changes to a student behavior policy.

Perry suggests alternative considerations for addressing student behavior such as after- or in-school suspensions or alternative educational settings.
