Every weekend local music geeks unite to provide the region with 11 hours of creatively curated tunes on WOUB 1340AM, an endeavor that is known commonly as Radio Free Athens! Typically the program runs from 9 a.m. EST to 8 p.m. EST every Saturday, and can also be heard through this link.

Here is a list of the DJs slated to play on Saturday, December 1:

9 a.m. to 12 p.m. – DJ Grumpy Grandma
12 p.m. to 3 p.m. – Programming
3 p.m. to 6 p.m. – Ezra Thobaben
6 p.m. to 8 p.m. – Daniel Spencer

If you miss this weekend’s fine radio programming — shame on you! — but not really, you can hear some fine selections from each DJ’s setlist on WOUB’s Radio Free Athens Spotify playlist, available at this link.

From DJ Grumpy Grandma, 9 a.m. EDT to 12 p.m. EDT

This week I will not only have myself and my records in the AM booth, I’ll also have another DJ, whose identity will remain anonymous until we’re playing music on the radio tomorrow! Lately I’ve been grooving to tunes like “End of Comedy” by Drugdealer, “Take It Easy” by Archie James Cavanaugh — and believe it or not, a lot of the tunes off of “Mac Miller’s” Swimming, which is the best record that Alexander Spit, Cardo, Carter Lang, Dâm-Funk, Dev Hynes, DJ Dahi, Eric G, Flying Lotus, Gitty, ID Labs, J. Cole, Jon Brion, Nice Rec, Nostxglic, Parson Brown, Pomo, Steve Lacy, Tae Beast, Tee-WaTT, Yung Exclusive put out this year! Every song was written by multiple people, which, you know, is what it is. The record certainly isn’t a product of Miller’s, who tragically passed away early this year — but his incredibly affected, phony sounding accent that he mysteriously developed (probably at the urging of one of the multiple, incredibly talented producers who he’s worked with,) is terribly relatable, and there’s something about such an obviously highly manufactured, artificial sound that is just too, too understandable to this Grumpy Grandma.
