The Notre Dame Lady Titans flexed their offensive muscle Thursday night, defeating the Lady Lancers of Federal Hocking 67-37 to advance to the district final.

Katie Detwiller dominated in the post for Notre Dame, finishing with 20 points and five rebounds. The Lady Lancers consistently sent double and triple-teams at the Titans’ center, but she fought through to finish 8-for-9 from the field. She sent several shots away on the defensive end as well, swatting six Lady Lancer attempts.

The Lady Titans’ offensive attack stemmed from beyond the arc as well. They knocked down seven of their 14 attempts from three, as Taylor Schmidt shot 2-for-5 from distance and Ana Hassel capitalized on each of her two attempts. Hassel and Schmidt were both in double-figures, scoring 14 and 10 points, respectively.

Notre Dame took control of this game from the opening tip. The Lady Titans blitzed Federal Hocking with back-to-back triples to start the game and took a 31-17 lead into the half.

After halftime, Detwiller took over. The Lady Titans consistently called her number, and she responded. She capitalized on all opportunities she was granted, hitting all but one of her shots. She also gave both herself and her teammates several second-chance opportunities, grabbing four offensive rebounds. The Lady Titans held a 30-point lead after the third quarter, and held that deficit until the final buzzer.

For Federal Hocking, Kylie Tabler caught fire early on from distance. The Lady Lancers’ guard knocked down three of her first five attempts from deep, and finished the game with four triples and 12 points. Emma Beha also chipped in 12 points and added three rebounds.

With this defeat, the Lady Lancers finish their season with a 9-14 record and a sectional championship. Point guard Paige Tolson showed significant improvement and maturation throughout her sophomore year, as her and Beha will look to lead a Lady Lancers squad that will bring its entire roster back next year. Combine their chemistry, depth and experience, and the Lady Lancers have all the components of a team poised for a breakthrough next year.
