Friday, August 16 through Tuesday, August 27 marks WOUB’s August Celebration of Programming. During that time period, WOUB-TV has a sprawling array of programming planned, from the insightful national parks documentary by Ken Burns; to a wide variety of musical performances; to an exciting “Downtown Abbey Live!” feature that will allow viewers to fall in love with the lauded program yet again. Saturday, August 17

12 p.m. Ken Burns: The National Parks 

In this documentary, lauded filmmaker Ken Burns teams up with his long time collaborator Dayton Duncan to observe the stunning beauty of the United States’ national parks in the entirely unique way that only those two artistic minds could. The feature also has behind-the-scenes information about the creation of the feature.

7 p.m. Lawrence Welk: Milestones and Memories

Some of the most beloved stars associated with the Lawrence Welk Show return for an upbeat and nostalgic reunion show. This special includes over 30 songs and a special medley of 25 songs in its final act.

10 p.m. Woodstock: Three Days That Defined a Generation (American Experience)

2019 marks the 50th anniversary of the first rock concert to ever be christened of significance by the National Register of Historic Places, Woodstock. The site of the concert, a 600-acre dairy farm in upstate NY, was deemed as such in 2017. The festival featured dazzling performances by the voices of a generation, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Sly and the Family Stone, The Incredible String Band, and many more. 9 p.m.  Downton Abbey Live!


Next month will mark the highly anticipated debut of the Downton Abbey feature film, and Downton Abbey Live! is intended to get already excited fans of the show even more revved up. There will be a number of teases from the upcoming feature film, as well as interviews with the series’ cast and creators throughout this program.

Wednesday, August 21

8 p.m. Life From Above

This is part one of a four-part documentary series that is a collaboration between BBC and PBS, exploring perspectives of planet Earth and the ways in which we look at it. The special utilizes drone, satellite, helicopter, and ground footage of our planet to strive to illustrate the hypercomplex interconnectivity of our planet.

Friday, August 23

10 p.m. O’Jays: Live In New York

Earlier this year, legendary R&B group The O’Jays performed at the historic St. George Theatre in New York City. Taped before a live audience, this new special celebrates the group’s illustrious and historic career featuring classic fan favorites like “Love Train,” “For The Love of Money,” and “Use Ta Be My Girl” along with a few fresh songs from the O’Jays recent and (final) album The Last Word. 

Saturday, August 24

9 p.m. Straight From the Heart: Timeless Music from the ’60s and ’70s (My Music) 

Tony Orlando and Dawn reunited in this special to remind us of one of the most beloved songs of the ’60s and ’70s, including hits from BJ Thomas, Dionne Warwick, Lou Rawls, The Fifth Dimension, and more.

Neil Diamond: Hot August Nights III
Neil Diamond: Hot August Night III chronicles Neil Diamond’s triumphant return to the legendary Greek Theatre in Los Angeles in August 2012. This magical evening celebrates the 40th anniversary of the original multiplatinum-selling Hot August Night collection that was recorded at the very same venue in 1972.

Big Band Years
Nick Clooney and Peter Marshall host a nostalgic look at hit makers and songs of the 1930s and 40s.
