ATHENS, Ohio – The Athens County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a woman in Millfield.

According to a news release deputies and EMS were dispatched to 15990 Millfield Road on a death call at 10:30 a.m. Thursday.

Once arriving on scene first responders discovered a strong odor of fumes coming from a camper trailer behind the residence.

EMS personnel managed to remove one woman from the camper before being affected by the fumes.

The woman was taken to O’Bleness Memorial Hospital for treatment.

First responders had to use breathing gear to enter the trailer to check on the second woman, who was found dead.

Sheriff Smith says carbon monoxide levels in the camper were extremely high. A preliminary investigation shows two gas-powered generators were being used to power the camper. It is believed the generators are the source of the fumes.

An autopsy is being conducted by the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office.
