WELLSTON, Ohio- As the sun met the horizon Friday evening, it turned the sky tangy orange and dark blue and matched the colors of Wellston Golden Rockets, setting the mood for their victory as they launched higher into orbit with a 42-0 win over River Valley Raiders in the sixth game of the season.

The River Valley Raiders were unable to keep the same momentum they had at their last game against the Meigs Marauders on Sept. 27. Their weak offense allowed the Golden Rockets to take possession and score their first touchdown with 4:59 left in the first quarter. Golden Rocket quarterback RJ Kemp found wide receiver Jeremiah Frisby in the end zone for a 15-yard touchdown to give Wellston the lead. The ensuing two-point conversion attempt was no good.

The Golden Rockets wasted no time striking again, as running back Rylan Molihan scored a second touchdown from 12 yards out with 4:34 left in the first quarter. The two-point attempt was no good.

On the Rockets’ third drive, Kemp completed a pass to wide receiver Hunter Smith for a 19-yard touchdown, making it 18-0 Golden Rockets with 2:56 left in the first quarter, as the two-point attempt failed.

The Golden Rockets finished strong in the first quarter at 18-0 and continued on that rocket boost as they scored their fourth touchdown with 10:27 left in the second quarter. The Golden Rockets two-point conversion was good, making it 26-0.

On a pivotal fourth down, the Golden Rockets intercepted the ball from the Raiders with 8:32 left in the second quarter and returned the ball 24 yards down the field.

Throughout the game, RJ Kemp had good chemistry with Hunter Smith, connecting on multiple passes. With 7:16 left in the second quarter, Kemp completed another pass to Smith and scored the fifth touchdown, followed by a successful two-point conversion for the already elated Golden Rockets. With less than a minute remaining in the third quarter, running back Jonathon Garvin punched the ball into the end zone with a 2-yard rush. A successful two-point conversion made the score 42-0, which would stand throughout the scoreless fourth quarter.

With another rapturous victory, the Wellston Golden Rockets move to 5-1. They will continue chasing the TVC-Ohio Championship next week against the Nelsonville-York Buckeyes, while River Valley will play the Alexander Spartans in an effort to get their season back on track.
