U.S. 33 Crash Kills Teen, Injures Others

UPDATE 10/14/19 — Another person has died as a result of a car crash last week at U.S. Route 33 near Johnson Road.

John Fitch, 23, had been taken to OhioHealth Grant Medical Center after the Friday morning crash. He was confirmed dead by officials at Hocking College, where he was a student. Connor Seevers, 19, also a student at the college, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

Seevers was from Uhrichsville, and had been studying music management at the college, according to Tim Brunicardi, spokesperson for the college. Fitch was a Columbus native who was studying Animal Assisted Therapy.


ATHENS (WOUB)– One person is dead and six others were sent to the hospital after an early morning accident on U.S. Route 33.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol a 2004 Saturn Vue, driven by Joshua M. Hughes, 19, for Springfield Ohio was traveling northwest on U.S. Route 33 when vehicle drove off the road, into the median, and then rolled.

The accident happened at approximately 2:02 a.m. Friday.

Connor Seevers, 19, was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. Mckale Losey, 19, and John Fitch, 23, were airlifted from the scene to Grant Medical Center.  Two other passengers, Cassandra Carl, 18, and Lila Mortenson, 17, were transported to O’Bleness Hospital and then airlifted to Grant Medical Center in Columbus. Elden Burnside, 20 and Hughes were taken to O’Bleness Hospital where they were treated and released.
