FORT FRYE- Tensions arose Monday night as Fort Frye students cheered on their Lady Cadets in a tooth-and-nail battle against the Vinton County Lady Vikings, who lost 51-43 in a close-cut game.

Lady Cadet Olivia Schneider gave her team a head start as she scored a field goal and a three-pointer in the first quarter. Subsequently, with two three-pointers in a row with 4:50 left in the second quarter, Lady Cadet Lexie Huck helped build on an impressive performance. Huck stuck to her game plan as she made multiple threes throughout the game and crashed the boards.

The Lady Cadets led the contest in the first half 22-14 with their fast-paced passes, while the Lady Vikings made a comeback in the third quarter. Lady Viking Morgan Benetly led the surge by scoring multiple field goals and three-pointers, totaling 15 points.

Lady Viking Teagan Bartoe fouled out of the game in the fourth quarter. Building on the Vikings’ loss were their missed opportunities at the free throws. With only four points to show for 10 attempts, the Lady Vikings couldn’t keep up with their eight point deficit.

The Lady Vikings look to get back in the win column during their next game against the Alexander Lady Spartans on Jan. 16, Thursday, in Albany.
