< < Back to eastern-cant-sustain-first-half-momentum-loses-to-trimble-tomcatsREEDSVILLE, Ohio- The Eastern faithful saw a tale of two halves when the Eagles and Tomcats faced-off on Friday. The Eastern Eagles controlled the first half, but the Trimble Tomcats fought back to get the win 64-33.
The Eagles took off from the start as they were in command of the scoreboard the entire first half as Eastern took a 22-19 lead into the second half.
Then the third quarter started with an immediate turnover from the Eagles that gave an easy basket to the Tomcats.
Turnovers for the Eagles were very costly as they ended the game with 16, which gave the ball to the Tomcats and allowed them to extend their lead. A big factor that led to turnovers was Trimble’s press. The press caused Eastern to have multiple five-second violations and multiple giveaways before the ball even crossed half court.
The Tomcats got into rhythm once the second half as their defense only allowed 11 points in the whole second half. Then, their offense fed off of the defense’s momentum to score 33 points to carry the Tomcats over the Eagles.
Brayden Weber led the way for the Tomcats with 22 total points to his name as well as Blake Guffey had 14 points and 6 rebounds.
For the Eagles, Colton Reynolds led the way with 19 points.
The Eastern Eagles will look to snap a two-game losing streak on Tuesday as they match-up against the Wellston Golden Eagles.
Trimble is right back in action on Saturday as they will head to Nelsonville-York coming off a big win.
