Loose Barges Float Down Ohio River, 1 May Have Struck Bridge

MASON, W.Va. (AP) – A bridge between Ohio and West Virginia has reopened after authorities said a loose barge may have crashed into one of its pillars.
News outlets report the Pomeroy-Mason Bridge reopened early Friday. At least nine barges ran loose Thursday night along the Ohio River.
All of the barges were secured just before midnight.
An inspection team went to the bridge to assess for any damage. Its unclear whether any damage was found.
Authorities haven’t said how the barges got loose. Heavy rain had led to high water on the Ohio River in recent days.
No injuries were reported.
