Athens Senior Center Weighs Continued Operations
< < Back to athens-senior-center-weighs-continued-operationsATHENS, Ohio (WOUB) — The Athens Senior Center will close on Monday, March 16 while the staff meets to plan whether to change its schedule.
The center is challenged by its location inside the Athens Community Center which will remain open. However, Andy Stone, the city’s service safety director said before and after-school care will be suspended and several cleaning protocols will be employed in the building.
Meanwhile senior citizens centers in Washington County, Ohio and Wood County, W.Va. have suspended activities in an effort to curb the spread of the coronavirus. The directors of the facilities said medical transportation and home assistance will continue but group activities will cease.
The directors cited increased risk of coronavirus complications among those 60 and older as another reason for the action.
In Kentucky, Gov. Andy Beshear has urged senior centers in Kentucky to temporarily close for in-person activities.
