Vincent, OH’s Cutler Station brought their own premium brand of high octane, infectious Appalachian powerpop to WOUB’s Radio A in January 2020 with their performance of four tracks from their forthcoming album Meat, No Sides.

Kicking off the session with “Iced Coffee,” an emotionally explosive ode to caffeine-induced road trip euphoria, the band then segued into the crystalline optimism/pessimism of “Dream,” all the while anchored by drummer Jason Swiger’s unparalleled ability to shade complex rhythmic structures effortlessly into the context of a pop song. Multi-instrumentalist Kirby Evans then provided a neon-lanced keyboard refrain for the kaleidoscopic, unified theorizing of everything of “Cellophane and Plastic.” The band ended their session with the wiry, tremulous melancholic beauty of “Wither Away,” Kirby conjuring up one of the absolute-catchiest guitar licks heard in recent memory alongside a groove-laden locomotion laid down in equal parts by bassist John Evans and drummer Jason Swiger. Sung by multi-instrumentalist Steve Lipscomb, the emotional powerhouse of a song percolates the kind of working class catharsis this music journalist had only ever experienced before via Guided By Voices’ “Valuable Hunting Knife.”
