ATHENS, Ohio (WOUB) — The Athens City Pool will not open at all this summer. Mayor Stephen Patterson read the announcement during his weekly briefing.
According to a press release, the “decision was a difficult one and not made lightly.”

The Athens Arts Parks and Recreation consulted with the Athens City-County Health Department, the Recreation Advisory Board and City Administration before making the decision to close for the 2020 season.

The city says opening the pool simply doesn’t make sense,  “Unfortunately, due to COVID-19 guidelines of capacity, distancing, and sanitation requirements, we feel that we cannot operate the pool in a fiscally responsible way nor will we be able to properly ensure the safety of our patrons coming into the facility.”
