ATHENS, OH – WOUB Director and Spectrum Podcast Host Tom Hodson will appear on Iowa Public Radio’s hour-long talk show River to River today (Monday, June 8) at 1 p.m. ET. River to River focuses on the news, issues and events in the midwestern state which is bordered by the Mississippi River to the east and the Missouri River and Big Sioux River to the west. The national award-winning program is broadcast statewide and aims to go beyond the headlines, frame community problems, and foster conversation.

“I will be talking about First Amendment rights of journalists during protests and the class action suit filed by the ACLU in Minnesota on behalf of journalists attacked by law enforcement during the current demonstrations,” said Hodson. “I will be joining Michael Bugeja, former Ohio University journalism professor and former director of Iowa State Journalism School.”

Hodson has led dual careers in law and journalism. His career as a criminal defense trial lawyer spanned over 20 years, with another 10 as a trial judge in both the municipal court and common pleas court in Ohio. He also served as a visiting judge with the Ohio Supreme Court and as a judicial fellow at the United States Supreme Court in the Administrative Office of the Chief Justice.

As a journalist, Hodson has pursued journalistic projects both in print and broadcast. He is widely published and continues to write numerous articles and columns for newspapers, magazines and trade journals. He also co-authored the Journalist’s Handbook to Ohio Courts.

“My background in law and journalism brings a unique and important perspective to the discussion,” said Hodson. “I’m excited to be a part of the program as this topic needs to be explored across our nation.”
