ATHENS, Ohio (WOUB) — The WOUB Visuals team talked with photographer and Ohio University alumni Rich-Joseph Facun about his new photobook, “Black Diamonds.” The book is a visual exploration of place, community and cultural identity in former coal mining boom towns of Southeast Ohio and Appalachia.

Facun shared insight on his career in photography, how he first thought of the idea for the book and photographed the project, and the hurdles of crowdfunding and publishing a book in the middle of a pandemic.
