ATHENS, OH – While 2020 was a challenging and unique year, WOUB Public Media had an important role in serving the region. In the newly released 2020 Community Report, WOUB is showcasing how it provided support to educators, families and the community through the use of our television, radio and online platforms as well as non-broadcast educational services to meet the needs of the people it serves.
“WOUB is a place many turned to for reliable information on the pandemic, the election, social justice issues, as well as quality entertainment and educational resources for their children and students,” said WOUB General Manager Mark Brewer. “We know how important that quality and trusted information and content is during this time and are very proud of the work we have done and are continuing to do to serve this region.”
The report identifies the many ways WOUB is using its multimedia resources to serve the educational, cultural and informational needs of the people of southeastern Ohio, western West Virginia and Northern Kentucky.
“In the report we look at the numbers and quantify how many people we touched in the region over the course of the fiscal year,” said Brewer. “I’m proud to say there was a 127% increase in the number of pageviews on woub.org, a 35% increase in the number of listeners to our podcasts, more than 1,000 teachers were served through professional development training, and there were more than 11,000 views of our locally-produced documentaries on YouTube. More people in our community and beyond are discovering and using the resources WOUB has available, and we want that to continue to grow.”
As a Community Service Grant recipient from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB), WOUB provides the community report to the CPB and publishes it online.
