Senior firefighter Jeff Armes was among the Nelsonville Division of Fire crew that responded to a call on Pleasantview Avenue at 5:04 p.m. Sunday.

Armes collapsed while working on the scene, according to a release from the division.

Firefighters and EMS administered CPR and advanced life support care until he was transported by Athens County EMS to OhioHealth O’Bleness Hospital in Athens where he was pronounced dead.

Nelsonville Fire Chief Harry Barber informed the Department of the Line of Duty Death and asked everyone to “please keep all our firefighters and their families in your thoughts and prayers as we work through this difficult time.”

Gov. Mike DeWine on Monday ordered flags be flown at half-staff in honor of Armes.

Funeral arrangements have not been made public at this time.
