Gubernatorial Candidate Promises To Give Southeast Ohio A Voice
< < Back toATHENS, Ohio (WOUB) — A Democratic candidate for governor toured through Athens last Friday and promised not to forget about Southeast Ohio if she’s elected.
Nan Whaley said every citizen in the state should have a voice but claimed that past administrations have largely ignored this region.
“You’ve been working more and more and getting paid less and less, you’re not making your ends meet and the only answer the Statehouse has given you is that you should move away to get a good paying job,” said Whaley, who has been mayor of Dayton since 2013.
Whaley made stops in Steubenville, Marietta, Athens and Chillicothe to talk to local communities, businesses and factories about her plans to invest in Southeast Ohio.
Whaley said a lack of investment in small towns is the main issue for these communities being left behind, and that Republicans in office still have yet to solve anything.
“We need to make sure we are really investing in our communities, that we have mental health services, that we have true partnerships to build roads, bridges and broadband instead of just talking about it all the time,” Whaley said.
