Brian Weimert, 43, was charged with two counts of aggravated murder.
The two victims were from the Pickaway County area and traveled to Morgan County to camp at the equine area of the Appalachian Hills Wildlife Area, according to the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office. The two lost contact with their family three weeks ago and a missing persons report was filed.
Late Monday afternoon, the Ohio Department of Natural Resources called the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office for assistance due to suspicions after a well-being check of a family at the campsite.
ODNR and the sheriff’s office coordinated an investigation into the disappearance of the two campers and found the missing couple’s car and trailer at the equine camping area.
After law enforcement obtained information from interviews at the site, they conducted an extensive search of the woods surrounding the equine area. In the early hours of Tuesday morning, two bodies were found in different locations.
After the discovery, Morgan County Sheriff Doug McGrath enlisted the help of the Washington County Sheriff’s Office Detective Bureau, which came and analyzed both crime scenes.
Weimert was taken into custody by the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office and booked into the Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail at 3:30 a.m.
The victims’ bodies were taken to the Licking County Coroner’s Office for autopsies. The identification of the victims is being withheld at this time, with additional information to be revealed in the coming days.
