Local Flavor with DJ Grumpy Grandma

I’ve got a heckuva show prepared for August 7!

Saturday morning is a sacred time, and I’ve compiled a soundtrack from 9 a.m. ET to 12 p.m. ET featuring music from Passion 8 (a Columbus alt R&B act that brings to mind Donny Hathaway, Thundercat, Frank Ocean, Prince) Harbor Day (electronic low-fi pop from Washington — think Dirty Projectors, Mac DeMarco, Young Marble Giants), Albert Rouzie (Athens-based singer-songwriter, think One Man Dog James Taylor), Athens-based piano driven fantasy rockers Amethystone (think Nina Hagen, Kate Bush), weirdo country from Larry Elephante (vibes similar to NRBQ), legendary Athens punk rockers Slut Castle, and much more!

Dave Baer’s Lair

New Tunes from Yola, Son Volt, Cub Scout Bowling Pins, Reigning Sound…
Tribute to Roky Erickson
Songs from upcoming Stuart’s Opera House artists: Okkervil River, Bob Mould, Shovels and Rope, Todd Snider, and Taj Mahal.
A nod to Big Bend Blues Bash in Pomeroy, Ohio.

What’s that you say? Most radio is awful? Well, you’re not wrong – that’s been true for at least 40 years. At Radio Free Athens, we think you can either curse the darkness, or light a candle. Light a candle. Listen to Radio Free Athens.
