In this long awaited “Battle for the Tracks,” both teams knew this game was important. Out of the gate, the Vikings displayed impressive energy and showed they were not giving this matchup away.
In the first quarter, Vinton County’s Braylon Damron punched it up the gut on a 3-yard rushing touchdown. On that drive, the Vikings would run the ball for every play. Vinton County continued to utilize the run game to the final minutes of the first quarter as Zayne Karr took the snap on the reverse for a 17-yard rushing touchdown.
In the first minutes of the second quarter, the Vikings ran the ball down to the 4-yard line for Damron to again drive through the Golden Rocket’s D-line for a Vinton County TD. This effort on pass-coverage followed through the entire game as the Vikings tallied up 3 total interceptions in the bout. Another rushing touchdown by Viking’s Broc Moore and the half would end 28-0, Vinton County.
In the second half, Wellston would pick up their only touchdowns of the game. Keeping the ball on the ground, #7 Isaac Molihan racked up both touchdowns, first with a 1-yard run and next with a 5-yard run. However, the Vikings run game and blocking were unmatched as Vinton County would go on to win this game 43-15 successfully bringing home the trophy for the “Battle for the Tracks.”
