From R@T

This week I will be continuing my celebration of the music of JD Hutchison. JD died this past week and has left a hole in the fabric of life that is Athens. He was a unique individual that I was fortunate to get to know. Please join me from 9 a.m. to noon.

Dave Baer’s Lair

In tribute to JD Hutchison, who recently passed away, I’ll be playing music from a live Realbilly Jive performance from the ’90s recorded at O’Hooley’s featuring Jim Smailes, John Borchard, and Dave Borowski after the news at 12:06 p.m., 1:06 p.m., and 2:06 p.m. EST. This recording has never been heard before… until now!!

Excursions: Jazz Motifs w/ Art Cromwell

This Saturday’s “Excursions” will present the second of three programs dedicated to Ohio’s Jazz artists and their historical contributions to the Music.

Our journey continues as we assay nearly 100 years of phonograph recordings of artists from various Ohio cities and towns, featured, or accompanying pioneers such as Fats Waller and James P. Johnson (’20s), to Jimmy Lunceford, and Count Basie of the Swing era (’30s). The Bebop period with Tadd Dameron and Geo. Russell (’40s & ’50s), through John Coltrane and Albert Ayler of the ’60s avant-garde, to the Present.
