LOGAN, Ohio (WOUB) — On the hunt for their first away game win, the Athens Bulldogs (3-11) could not turn the game in their favor against the Logan Chieftains (8-6).

Going a week since playing their winning matchup on the hardwood against Alexander, the Athens boys team were unable to match Logan’s momentum quarter for quarter. Head coach Mickey Cozart reflects on the game stating, “We didn’t have the same fire power tonight, offensively, like we did against Alexander.”

By the end of the first half, Athens totaled only fifteen points on the board. Despite their hard efforts, no one on their starting line up could match Logan’s ability to find the net time and time again.

Out of the locker room and back on the court for the second half, Derrick Welsh led the doghouse with twelve points. Following suit, Nathan Shadik totaled eleven points to the board despite Logan keeping him on defensive lockdown after his strong offensive power against Alexander.

Between buzzer beaters to controversial fouls, the Chieftains came out victorious over the Bulldogs with a 47-34 win.

The leading senior, Welsh, reflects on what needs to be improved for their next game, “We’ve got to find our own momentum, get hot early and go from there.”

The Athens boys team will hit the roads and play Wellston (6-6) on Tuesday in a conference match up. They will be looking to bring home a victory and a higher standing in the Tri-Valley Conference once and for all.
