ATHENS, OH – Alissa Henry, BSJ ’09, is the host of Cash Explosion, the nation’s only statewide TV lottery game show that has been on the air for more than 30 years. And she credits her time at WOUB Public Media and Ohio University for giving her the skills and confidence to do it. Henry will be the next WOUB Wednesday speaker on February 2 at 7:30 p.m. ET. WOUB Wednesdays is a program that gives former WOUB students the opportunity to conduct a virtual conversation with current students and other alumni. The speaker talks about their career experiences and takes questions from those in attendance.

WOUB Wednesdays are a great way to provide students the opportunity to talk with industry professionals virtually,” said WOUB Director of Student Professional Development Michael Rodriguez.

After graduation, Henry struggled to find a job in journalism due to the Great Recession. But she eventually started working in television after winning a co-hosting job through the CW Star Contest. That opportunity landed her a reporting job at ABC 6 and Fox 28 in Columbus. In 2017, she started hosting Cash Explosion.

“Throughout spring semester, we have several former WOUB students scheduled to talk with current students and alumni,” said WOUB Community Engagement Manager Cheri Russo. “The former students are excited to share what they have learned out in the industry with current and former WOUB students.”

The virtual discussions are held on Wednesday evenings at 7:30 p.m. and are open to all current and former WOUB students as well as WOUB staff. Those interested can register at  bit.ly/WOUBWednesday  Registration is required for each session.
