Four COVID-related deaths have been reported in Athens County, along with 113 new cases for Jan. 28

ATHENS, Ohio (WOUB) — Athens County has now had 111 total deaths related to COVID-19 since the beginning of the pandemic after four were added to the total Friday. The county also has now had 13,257 total cases of COVID-19 since the beginning of the pandemic after 113 new cases were added the same day.

The Ohio Department of Health confirmed the numbers on Jan. 28, 2022.

Analysis of ODH data indicates the deaths involved three people in their 70s and a person in their 50s.

According to ODH data, the cases involved 43 people 20-29, 29 people 0-19, 13 people 40-49, 10 people 30-39, 10 people 50-59, five people 60-69, two people 70-79 and a person 80+.

There are 2,841 known active cases in the county as of Friday and 10,305 recovered cases, according to ODH.

A total of 52.81% of the county has started the vaccination process and 49.10% has completed it, according to ODH. There have also been 16,307 additional doses administered.

Anyone experiencing respiratory symptoms is asked to call their primary care physician, urgent care, or emergency department before arriving for care to let them know that they believe they are experiencing symptoms related to COVID-19 virus.

Friday at 2 p.m., the Ohio Department of Health announced 9,440 confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 statewide were reported in the last 24 hours. There were also 303 hospitalizations, 30 ICU admissions and 582 deaths in the same time frame.

ODH makes the following recommendations to protect yourself from illness:

  • Wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds; dry hands with a clean towel or air dry hands.
  • Use alcohol-based hand sanitizer when soap and water are unavailable.
  • Cover your mouth with a tissue or sleeve when sneezing or coughing. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Stay home when you are sick.
  • Avoid contact with people who are sick.
