Eastern unable to get revenge as Belpre wins comfortably
< < Back toREEDSVILLE, Ohio (WOUB) — The Eastern Eagles traveled to Belpre looking to avenge their loss from early January. Eastern was beaten by a mere 4 points in that game, so this was shaping up to be a close game.
In the first couple minutes of the game the eagles found themselves up 3-2, however, this was the only lead they had throughout the entire game. From there Belpre went on a scoring run and took firm control of the game.
The Golden Eagles were able to do this on sizzling hot three-point shooting as they nailed seven of their nine threes in the contest. It wasn’t a one man show either as five different Belpre players drained one from outside, including Blake Church who made both of his.
The Eagles were able to mount a few comebacks as they cut the lead to two and three points on separate occasions. However, each time they found themselves within striking distance, Belpre regained their rhythm and took the game back over.
The Golden Eagles resilience led them to a 63-44 victory over the Eastern in a great defensive performance.
The main problem for the Eagles in the game was that they just couldn’t get the lid off the basket. They shot an abysmal 16-63 from the field and 3-17 from three in the game.
This offense led to easy fastbreaks for Belpre and gave Eastern a tough time on defense.
The one Eagle one performance that shined through was Bryce Newland who bullied his way into 13 points and seven rebounds along with his typical great defense.
For the Golden Eagles, it was Tucker Liston who scored 22 points and grabbed nine rebounds in his own right, although it seemed the entire Belpre roster had a good game.
Eastern will look to right the ship on Friday as they play their last regular season game against their rival, Southern. After that they head to Paint Valley to start their tournament play.
