More than half of Athens County has completed the COVID-19 vaccination process as of March 13

ATHENS, Ohio (WOUB) — A little more than half of Athens County residents have completed the COVID-19 vaccination process as of Sunday, according to the Ohio Department of Health.

A total of 50.02% of the county has received the CDC recommended number of COVID-19 vaccine doses to be considered fully vaccinated. A total of 53.56% of the county has started the vaccination process and there have also been 17,293 additional doses administered.

Meanwhile, 57.5% of Ohio’s population has completed the vaccination process. The county in Ohio with the highest percent of its population fully vaccinated is Delaware at 73.81%. The county with the lowest percent of its population fully vaccinated is Holmes at 18.01%.

Athens County has now had 14,395 total cases of COVID-19 since the beginning of the pandemic after five new cases were reported for Saturday and Sunday.

The Ohio Department of Health confirmed the numbers on March 13, 2022.

According to ODH data, the cases involved two people 40-49, one person 0-19, one person 20-29 and one person 30-39.

There are 185 known active cases in the county as of Sunday and 14,076 recovered cases, according to ODH.

Anyone experiencing respiratory symptoms is asked to call their primary care physician, urgent care, or emergency department before arriving for care to let them know that they believe they are experiencing symptoms related to COVID-19 virus.

Sunday at 2 p.m., the Ohio Department of Health announced 317 confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 statewide were reported in the last 24 hours leading up to the report. There were also 4 hospitalizations and no ICU admissions reported in the same time period.

ODH makes the following recommendations to protect yourself from illness:

  • Wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds; dry hands with a clean towel or air dry hands.
  • Use alcohol-based hand sanitizer when soap and water are unavailable.
  • Cover your mouth with a tissue or sleeve when sneezing or coughing. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Stay home when you are sick.
  • Avoid contact with people who are sick.
