One COVID-related death has been reported in Athens County, along with 30 new cases for March 14-17

ATHENS, Ohio (WOUB) — Athens County has now had 135 total deaths related to COVID-19 since the beginning of the pandemic after one was added to the total Thursday. The county also has now had 14,425 total cases of COVID-19 since the beginning of the pandemic after 30 new cases were added since the last update on Sunday.

The Ohio Department of Health confirmed the numbers on March 17, 2022.

Analysis of ODH data indicates the death involved a person 80 or older.

According to ODH data, the cases involved 11 people 20-29, 10 people 40-49, four people 0-19, two people 60-69, one person 30-39, one person 70-79 and one person 80+.

There are 160 known active cases in the county as of Thursday and 14,130 recovered cases, according to ODH.

A total of 53.61% of the county has started the vaccination process and 50.09% has completed it, according to ODH. There have also been 17,343 additional doses administered.

Anyone experiencing respiratory symptoms is asked to call their primary care physician, urgent care, or emergency department before arriving for care to let them know that they believe they are experiencing symptoms related to COVID-19 virus.

Thursday at 2 p.m., the Ohio Department of Health announced 3,605 confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 statewide were reported since the last update on Sunday. There were also 309 hospitalizations, 50 ICU admissions and 396 deaths reported in the same time period.

ODH makes the following recommendations to protect yourself from illness:

  • Wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds; dry hands with a clean towel or air dry hands.
  • Use alcohol-based hand sanitizer when soap and water are unavailable.
  • Cover your mouth with a tissue or sleeve when sneezing or coughing. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Stay home when you are sick.
  • Avoid contact with people who are sick.
