ATHENS, Ohio (WOUB) — Athens County has now had 141 total deaths related to COVID-19 since the beginning of the pandemic after three were added to the total Thursday. The county also has now had 14,511 total cases of COVID-19 since the beginning of the pandemic after 21 new cases were added since last week’s update.

The Ohio Department of Health confirmed the numbers on April 7, 2022.

Analysis of ODH data indicates the deaths involved three people 80 or older.

According to ODH data, the cases involved four people 0-19, four people 40-49, four people 70-79, two people 30-39, two people 50-59, two people 60-69, two people 80+ and one person 20-29.

A previously confirmed case required hospitalization for a person in their 50s. According to the data, 342 people in Athens County have been hospitalized due to complications related to this coronavirus since the start of the pandemic.

There are 65 known active cases in the county as of Thursday and 14,305 recovered cases, according to ODH.

A total of 52.65% of the county has started the vaccination process and 49.18% has completed it, according to ODH. There have also been 17,013 additional doses administered.

According to the Athens City-County Health Department, recent data updates over the past two weeks show a reduction in the number of local vaccinations. Officials said this is a result of processing a backlog of address updates. The county of designation is based on a vaccine recipient’s address provided for the most recent immunization.

Anyone experiencing respiratory symptoms is asked to call their primary care physician, urgent care, or emergency department before arriving for care to let them know that they believe they are experiencing symptoms related to COVID-19 virus.
