The 30-minute program airs during the academic year on WOUB AM

ATHENS, OH – After the first semester of the At the Moment radio program and podcast, a partnership between WOUB and the Black Student Communication Caucus (BSCC) at Ohio University, there are new ideas going forward.

At the moment logoThe 30-minute program premiered on WOUB AM at the end of January and airs on WOUB AM on Sunday evenings at 6 p.m. It provides perspective on what Black students deal with on campus at Ohio University, which is a predominantly white institution (PWI). The show has an interview/conversation style format with multiple student hosts to tackle many different issues.

“We are excited about what next year will bring for the show,” said new BSCC President Joi Foy. “We plan to promote the program more to reach our target audience of Black and multi-cultural students next year. We want to reach more people.”

A podcast version of the program can be found at woub.org/listen and makes the show available to people outside of Athens.

Given the racial issues that occurred on the Ohio University campus during spring semester, Foy says it’s important for Black and multi-cultural students to know they have a voice.

“Being a minority on campus, it’s easy to feel like we are voiceless. In certain contexts, we are, when it comes to certain situations and the handling of certain situations,” said Foy. “But having this program and podcast, where we can discuss our perspectives is important for the Black and multi-cultural community as a whole.”

Next season, Foy plans to bring guests on the program from outside Ohio University to hear their perspectives.

“We want to make sure we are covering topics relevant to the Black and multi-cultural community,” said Foy. “That is who we want to make sure is getting what they need out of this program.”
