Democratic candidate for Ohio treasurer speaks at Athens brewery
< < Back toATHENS, Ohio (WOUB/Report for America) – Democratic candidate for Ohio Treasurer Scott Schertzer met with constituents at Little Fish Brewing Company in Athens this afternoon. Schertzer told WOUB that, if elected, his main focus will be on the state’s five pension funds.
“People are working longer, they’re working harder, they’re paying more, and they’re getting less when they retire,” said Schertzer. “That’s just not right.”
Schertzer says fixing the state’s pension funds will benefit hardworking families and the middle class.
“You’re talking about police officers, firefighters, teachers, nurses. You’re talking about the very people that plow our city streets,” he said. “They’re getting the short end of the stick.”
Schertzer is running against Republican incumbent Robert Sprague. The election will take place in November.
