Athens high school names Eric Sholtis new athletic director
< < Back toATHENS, Ohio (WOUB) – Athens High School announced Eric Sholtis as their new athletic director following the retirement of Rick Guimond.
Guimond – who worked as Athens athletic director for three years – says this retirement gives him the chance to spend more time with his family. “I have an opportunity to spend more time with my wife now,” Guimond said. “That’ll be great.”
Guimond said he is grateful for his time with Athens and still looks to help.
Sholtis comes to Athens after being the athletic director for six years at Shenandoah High School. He also served as a graduate assistant coaching football under Frank Solich.
Sholtis’ first experience with Athens’ athletics will come during the football season.
Athens’ football has had struggling years, going a combined 10 and 16 over the last three years. However, Sholtis is most excited about the way football will connect him to the community.
“Every sport is important, but football holds a special place in my heart,” Sholtis said. “It’s a great opportunity…athletics gets the opportunity to be the window of the school to the community. There is no better example of football than that.”
Athens first game of the 2022 season is August ninth on the road against Philo.
