Alexander and Wellston kicked off on Friday night in an intense battle.

Alexander came into this game 3-1 looking to carry on the momentum. Meanwhile, Wellston went into this game 0-4 with hopes of winning their first game.

The Golden Rockets started the game off with a slow start and forced a punt. The Spartans went on to receive the ball but ultimately ended up going three and out.

Both teams went back and forth but no team was able to capitalize until late in the second quarter with the Alexanders #10 Logan Jenkins taking it to the house with a 48 yard reception for a touchdown.

But that wouldn’t stop Wellston, because the very next play Brenton Breech scored a 79 yard kick return touchdown. Later on in the quarter The Spartans would try to kick a field goal but it was ultimately blocked.

This would set the score 7-7 going into the half. The whole second half would be dominated by Alexander due to the team scoring three more touchdowns and The Golden Rockets only scoring one more to make the final score 28-13.

The biggest challenge that Wellston struggled with was bad snaps. Alexander moves on to 4-1 and Wellsoton still haven’t won a game this season. This was the first time that the Spartans have beaten the Golden Rockets since 2015.

Alexander goes on to face Vinton County and Wellston goes on to face River Valley next week.
