One COVID-related death has been reported in Athens County, along with 55 new cases for Oct. 21-27
< < Back to one-covid-related-death-has-been-reported-in-athens-county-along-with-55-new-cases-for-oct-21-27ATHENS, Ohio (WOUB) — Athens County has now had 155 total deaths related to COVID-19 since the beginning of the pandemic after one was added to the total Thursday. The county also has now had had 18,691 total cases of COVID-19 since the beginning of the pandemic after 55 additional cases were reported since last week’s update.
The Ohio Department of Health confirmed the numbers on Oct. 27, 2022.
Analysis of ODH data indicates the death involved a person in their 70s.
The new cases involved 10 people 0-19, 10 people 20-29, nine people 40-49, nine people 50-59, eight people 70-79, 3 people 30-39, three people 60-69 and three people 80+.
There are 160 known active cases in the county as of Thursday and 18,376 recovered cases, according to ODH.
A total of 53.70% of the county has started the vaccination process and 50.04% has completed it, according to ODH. There have also been 18,677 first boosters and 6,930 second boosters and 4,882 updated boosters administered.
Anyone experiencing respiratory symptoms is asked to call their primary care physician, urgent care, or emergency department before arriving for care to let them know that they believe they are experiencing symptoms related to COVID-19 virus.
Thursday at 2 p.m., the Ohio Department of Health announced 11,663 confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 statewide were reported since last week’s update. There were also 508 hospitalizations, 35 ICU admissions and 67 deaths reported in the same time period.
ODH makes the following recommendations to protect yourself from illness:
- Wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds; dry hands with a clean towel or air dry hands.
- Use alcohol-based hand sanitizer when soap and water are unavailable.
- Cover your mouth with a tissue or sleeve when sneezing or coughing. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth with unwashed hands.
- Stay home when you are sick.
- Avoid contact with people who are sick.
