138 new COVID-19 cases were reported over two weeks in Athens County from Dec. 2-15

ATHENS, Ohio (WOUB) — Athens County has now had 19,112 total cases of COVID-19 since the beginning of the pandemic after 138 additional cases were reported since the update two weeks prior.
The Ohio Department of Health confirmed the numbers on Dec. 15, 2022.
According to ODH data, the cases involved 24 people aged 0-19, 21 people aged 20-29, 20 people 30-39, 18 people 60-69, 17 people 50-59, 16 people 70-79, 13 people 40-49 and nine people 80+.
There are 193 known active cases in the county as of Thursday and 18,764 recovered cases, according to ODH.
A total of 54.03% of the county has started the vaccination process and 50.39% has completed it, according to ODH. There have also been 19,151 first boosters and 8,772 second boosters and 8,196 updated boosters administered.
Anyone experiencing respiratory symptoms is asked to call their primary care physician, urgent care, or emergency department before arriving for care to let them know that they believe they are experiencing symptoms related to COVID-19 virus.
ODH makes the following recommendations to protect yourself from illness:
- Wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds; dry hands with a clean towel or air dry hands.
- Use alcohol-based hand sanitizer when soap and water are unavailable.
- Cover your mouth with a tissue or sleeve when sneezing or coughing. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth with unwashed hands.
- Stay home when you are sick.
- Avoid contact with people who are sick.
