Vinton County Vikings lose first playoff game against Warren
< < Back toINCENT, Ohio (WOUB) – The Vinton County Vikings began their postseason at Warren High School on Wednesday night, with hopes to advance to Washington Court House on Saturday. However, the Vikings’ tournament aspirations were dashed at the hands of the Warriors, as they dropped this one, 58-36.
Vinton County got off to a slow start offensively, as the Vikings only scored five points as a team. Their defense played well, however, as turnovers were a problem for both teams all night. The Vikings trailed after one, 12-5.
The Vikings were able to outscore the Warriors in the second quarter, as their defense improved as the game went on. Shots just weren’t falling at the rate the Vikings had been accustomed to all season. Vinton County trailed, 21-17.
Vinton County was able to muster eleven points in the third quarter, but 6’7” big man Trent Taylor began to heat up, as he finished with 18 points and 5 rebounds. Vinton County was able to stay in the game at the end of the third, down just 37-28.
The Vikings had played incredibly well in the fourth quarter all season long, beating their opponents by an average of five points per game in the quarter. However, the exact opposite happened on Wednesday. Warren continued to pile it on while Vinton County committed turnover after turnover, en route to losing the quarter 21-6, along with losing the game and ending their season, 58-36.
