Sycamore Sessions Returns for Eighth Season, Showcasing Captivating Performances from the 2023 Nelsonville Music Festival
< < Back toNELSONVILLE, OH – The Ohio Valley Emmy Award nominated Sycamore Sessions (formerly the Gladden House Sessions) returns August 29 for an eighth season. This season presents 17 performances from both regional and national musical artists, all filmed against the vibrant backdrop of the 2023 Nelsonville Music Festival. Audiences can find the sessions exclusively at woub.org/culture every Tuesday and Friday, from August 29 to October 24.
The sessions are a collaborative effort between the Nelsonville Music Festival, WOUB Public Media, and the Ohio University Scripps College of Communication’s School of Media Arts and Studies. The performances are meticulously recorded and produced by Media Arts and Studies students under the guidance of Host and Director Josh Antonuccio, as well as the following Associate Producers: Director of Photography Andie Walla (Media Arts and Studies Associate Professor of Instruction), Audio Supervisor Adam Rich (WOUB), and WOUB’s Arts and Culture Editor Emily Votaw.
Antonuccio, a longtime creative force behind the series, expressed his excitement for the upcoming season.
“We are excited to share our eighth season from the Nelsonville Music Festival, and this one in particular is special because we are featuring longer sets from more artists than ever before,” he said. “We shot 17 sets across three days and will be sharing full sets we recorded at the gorgeous Creekside stage. We have sessions from established and rising artists, including a secret set with Sierra Ferrell, an extended set from Michael Hurley, and a range of intimate and raucous performances, all from the magic of this wooded stage.”
A key goal of the production is capturing the live experience of these intimate performances.
“We really focused on capturing high-quality video and audio for the audiences at home,” said Walla. “The crew learned the space better in the second year at the Snow Fork Event Center location. We’ll give you the best seat in the house to enjoy the variety of artists that were featured at the Creekside Stage. The magic of the space really comes out in the episodes. I hope that more folks will want to come see it happen in person next year!”
WOUB’s Adam Rich and Emily Votaw both expressed the importance of the production as a fulfillment to WOUB’s commitment to providing excellent professional development opportunities to Ohio University students.
“It’s not easy for young media professionals to gain meaningful experience in this industry, and taking part in a project like this sets students up for success once they enter the professional world,” said Votaw.
“WOUB professionals are accustomed to working with students,” said Rich. “The Sycamore Sessions are an example of how that close knit working relationship can result in excellent professional development for the students while creating quality, culturally relevant content for our wider audience.”
