NELSONVILLE, Ohio (WOUB)— The Nelsonville-York Buckeyes and the Meigs Marauders faced off in a TVC Ohio match-up Thursday evening. Nelsonville-York was coming off a conference win Tuesday against Vinton County and hoped to keep their momentum rolling. After a hard-fought battle, the Buckeyes walk away with a victory 3-1.

The Buckeyes came out hot in the first set taking an early 12-4 lead and never looked back. They took the first set with an easy score of 25-12, the Buckeyes offense was on fire throughout. The trio of Chole Lehman, Gianna Dixon, and Kyleigh Warren were nearly unstoppable in their attack.

In the second set, Meigs settled down and made it a bit more interesting. The Buckeyes continued to use their height advantage on offense to score easily as well as hustling with great backline defense from libero Lindsey Spencer. NY took the second set with a score of 25-15.

In the third set the match flipped on its head as the Buckeyes opened with sloppy play and Meigs took advantage of these mistakes. The set stayed close until the Marauders hit the 15 point mark and shot forward into the lead taking the set 25-17.

Going into the fourth coach Wayne Dicken told his girls, “We got hit in the mouth… good teams find a way to get up after getting hit in the mouth and we had two choices: get knocked out or we can get up and fight.”

And get up and fight is what the Buckeyes decided to do, throwing a counter punch of their own at the Marauders early in the fourth set that sent Meigs reeling. NY cruised once they took their lead, taking the set smoothly with a final score of 25-16. With the 3-1 win the Buckeyes go to 2-0 in the TVC Ohio and 4-1 overall.

NY has a big week approaching, starting with a trip to Waterford to take on the Wildcats on Tuesday September 5. The Buckeyes then host the Belpre Golden Eagles on Wednesday September 6 before traveling to Wellston to finish off the week with an in conference matchup against the Golden Rockets on September 7.
