ATHENS, Ohio (WOUB) — Ohio defeated William and Mary in four sets to wrap up the Bobcat Invitational on Saturday afternoon.

To start out, the Bobcats came out with a winning mindset.

“Personally, it was we got to freaking win,” graduate student Caitlin O’Farrell said. “The past two days were really frustrating not being able to pull through with those sets.”

With this mindset Ohio came and played a very offensive game. With 12 kills the Bobcats were dominant in route to securing a first set victory. Though the Tribe fought hard they were not able to match the Bobcats energy.

In the second set, the Tribes energy was low, and they could not seem to get things going. Discouraged from the first set loss, the Tribe could only make out with eight kills and 14 points. The Bobcats used this deafening energy to their advantage and pounced on the second set win, 25-14.

With fire on their feet the thought of losing was far out of sight for the Bobcats.

After a hard first two sets for William and Mary, they fought back. The fire on the Bobcats feet was enough to ignite a spark on the Tribe and turn their defensively played game into an offensive one. While it was a close set, William and Mary came out on top. While this was an upsetting setback for the Bobcats it did not diminish their flame.

Coming into the fourth set each team had one thing on their minds, winning. Looking for revenge, Ohio came back and beat William and Mary in the fourth set. With 15 kills the Bobcats did what they needed to do and secured the win 25-19.

“It was a nice way to wrap up this tournament,” head coach Geoff Carlston said. “It was a tough tournament and that is a team you can lose too, and they played pretty well.”

Ohio is back in action on Sept. 14 against Drake to open the Cyclone Invitational.
